What’s going on at the Chamber?

2014-2015 CHAMBER BOARD OF DIRECTORS The successes of the Chamber of Commerce would not be possible without our board of directors who are tireless advocates promoting our mission as a chamber and supporting our community in countless ways. Thank you – Kenny Rambo, 2013-2014 Chamber President, for your leadership this year. I look forward to the year ahead with our new Chamber President, Katie McDowell and the following Board of Directors: Allison Shepherd (President-Elect), Kenny Rambo, Teleana Davis, Maegan Hellmueller, Pam Stephens, Nina Cundiff, Stefanie Rock, Dr. Tom Davenport, Beth Cassity, Diana Leathers, Sam Sanders, Tammy Davidson, Chuck Crain and Brian Anderson, Jr. our student board member.

STATE FAIR Summer has us gearing up to promote Hodgenville/LaRue County at the 2014 Kentucky State Fair, August 14th-24^th. We are currently making plans and recruiting volunteers for our Pride of the Counties booth. This year volunteers will be given free admission to the fair and free parking and t-shirts to wear while they are promoting our great county! We are the proud Birthplace of Lincoln! We are excited to share with visitors Hodgenville’s #3 ranking by the Safe Wise Report releasing its “50 Safest Cities in Kentucky” and promote our 2014 Best in Kentucky from Kentucky Living Magazine for Paula’s Hot Biscuit, voted best non franchise restaurant, and Lincoln Days Festival, voted best annual festival (non-music). It is a great time to promote LaRue County to visitors from all over Kentucky and other places. If you would like to volunteer, please contact me at the office by August 1^st.

Park opens on delayed schedule

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program

Lincoln Trail Area Agency on Aging will be holding a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program at the LaRue County Public Library beginning Tuesday, January 28^th from 1:00-3:00pm. This will be a 6 week course and is a free program to the community. This is open to individuals with a chronic disease, as well as caregivers.

Our speaker this month is State Representative Terry Mills.

Representative Mills was born and raised in Marion County. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with degree in Business Administration. He worked for the Social Security Administration for 35 years before retiring and running for elected office as a State Representative. He has been serving in the General Assembly since February 2010. The redistricting the General Assembly passed this August has LaRue County in the 24th Legislative District with the counties of Marion and Green.

Hodgenville Woman’s Club Home Tour & Tasting Party —this Saturday

The Hodgenville Woman’s Club Home Tour and Tasting Party has been rescheduled to this Saturday, December 14th due to last week’s weather. Tickets for this event can be purchased at the clubhouse on the day of the event for $10. The tasting party features food prepared from recipes out of the Club’s latest cookbook. This begins at 2:00pm and concludes at 3:30pm. Home tours are from 2:30pm-5:30pm. The homes featured this year: Larry and Sandra Bell in Gleanings; and Mike and Kaye Smith in the Tanner community.

Great Community Events

It has been busy times here at the Chamber as we have transitioned from the candy of Halloween to the trees of Christmas!

If you missed all the Trick or Treat excitement on the Square…WOW! What a record crowd! We had over 70 costumed kids and adults participate in our Costume Contest. Special thanks to our judges this year Ricky Whitlock, Gordon Thomas, and Kyle Williamson. They definitely had their work cut out for them this year. Thanks to Marsha Duncan, our wonderful MC, and her volunteer high schools students who assisted us for the costume contest. Thank you to the Awards Center in Elizabethtown for sponsoring the awards this year. The additions of inflatables by First Baptist Church and food vendors, Makin Memories and Adams Family Foods, added more fun to the festivities. A big thank you to all the businesses and organizations that participated and gave candy to our massive crowd; we could not have done it without you. Thanks to the Lincoln Museum, Vanity Hair, LaRue County Herald News, the Law Office of Kyle W.
