Speaker Joseph Danzer, a Google Certified Photographer informed the crowd how to get their business online with Google Search and Maps. It has been exciting to watch the growth of the monthly Chamber luncheons as we continually strive to present programs and opportunities beneficial to your business and family. Mark your calendars for this month’s luncheon on Wednesday, March 16 at noon. You don’t want to miss LaRue County’s very own Dale Dobson with the Department of Agriculture highlighting current projects underway and discussing the importance of Ag Safety as we all “Share the Road this Spring.” Please RSVP by noon on Tuesday, March 15, by calling the Chamber office at 270-358-3411.
Due to the nature of this presentation with interactive displays, the March 16 luncheon will be held at First Baptist Church Hodgenville located on 730 Tonieville Road. First Baptist Church will also cater lunch. Citizens Union Bank is the luncheon sponsor and LaRue County Cooperative Extension Service is the non-profit sponsor.
Make plans now to stop by the Chamber booth at the LaRue County Extension Expo on Saturday, March 19, which is held at the LaRue County High School gym.
Chamber members are also growing! The grand opening for Farm Credit Mid America’s new offices will be Friday, March 25 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Their offices are located at 501 South Ring Road in Elizabethtown. The ribbon cutting will take place at 11:30 a.m. Join us as we celebrate this exciting time with Farm Credit.

The 2006-2007 Leadership LaRue County Class established the chamber’s first Leadership LaRue Scholarship. This $500 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from LaRue County public or private schools, or an adult wishing to begin an educational program. For more details, see the attached scholarship information. Applications are also available at the LCHS guidance counselor’s office. Deadline is April 1.

This opportunity is available for current LaRue County High School sophomores. The Youth Board Member will join the 2016-2017 Chamber Board of Directors. The Youth Board Member’s term will start on July 1, 2016 and end June 30, 2017. The Youth Board Member has the unique opportunity to experience and participate in the inner workings of the LaRue County Chamber of Commerce by attending and participating in monthly Board of Directors meetings, interacting on chamber committees, and involvement in chamber activities. With all the holidays around the corner, I have smiled when I encounter people starting their Christmas shopping among the Halloween candy. Their Christmas list is ready and they are crossing gifts off while others wait closer to December 24th to start.
Whenever you choose to start your Christmas shopping, I encourage you to Shop Local first! The businesses and merchants in our community offer such a range of unique gifts and artistic talents that can make your gift giving more personal. Owning a small business is never your typical 9 to 5 with weekends off. It requires long hours, hard work, dedication, perseverance, having family pitch in for extra help, and the list goes on. As a granddaughter of small business owners, I can tell you how much the support of your local community means. There are so many memories I cherish and this time of year I smile and remember the countless New Year’s Eves spent doing inventory at my grandparents store and my grandmother balancing the store books late into the evening at the kitchen table with coffee in hand. They exemplified the meaning of entrepreneurship, strong work ethic, dedication, friendly customer service, perseverance and enjoyed investing in the lives of their customers. It was their dream and life.
Over the next several weeks, local merchants begin welcoming customers to their holiday open houses and the Chamber is excited to partner again with local merchants to encourage Shop Local on November 20-21, before Black Friday weekend. It is all done to accomplish the same goal: Enjoy Shopping Local this Season! It’s your community, invest in it!

Summer has us gearing up to promote Hodgenville/LaRue County at the 2015 Kentucky State Fair, August 20th-30th. We are currently making plans and recruiting volunteers for our Pride of the Counties booth. This year volunteers will be given free admission to the fair and free parking and t-shirts to wear while they are promoting our great county! Last year, 1,641 people registered for the tourist family fun passes and enjoyed six days of Lincoln look-alikes.
